IPOS Programme

A UK Retailer

THE CHALLENGE

The IT Group in a large UK retailer was engaged in a £200m, multi-year programme to refresh the current stock management and point of sale solutions, covering areas such as till hardware, handheld terminals, desk top portals. The programme was suffering from a lack of alignment between the multiple delivery groups, initiatives and time scales involved. Qedis took on the role of PMO from an incumbent organisation.

THE APPROACH

Qedis reviewed the existing PMO processes and operations, but aware of the risk of destabilising the programme at a critical stage, ensured that change was controlled, digestible and targeted. Qedis implemented a range of improvements and then managed the day-to-day operations of the PMO and support for the programme. Qedis took more ownership of the overall programme plan and supplier challenges.

THE RESULTS

- Completed the re-planning of the programme within an extremely aggressive timeframe

- Managed more than 30 different stakeholders and suppliers during the process

- Established a high level of confidence within the client and its suppliers in delivery against the new programme plan

- Improved financial planning, working processes for the management and delivery for the programme

- Reduced the cost of the PMO operation and transitioned the perception of the PMO from process machine to an issues focused value adding function
